Replace a Failed Drive

  1. Log into the system
  2. Log into SST as QSECOFR
  3. Select option 1. Start a service tool
  4. Select option 7. Hardware service manager
  5. Select option 6.  Work with service action log
  6. Select date range or enter *
  1. Locate the error and enter a 2 next to it to view it

  1. Here you can enter a 2 to display details

NOTE: Here is also where it lists the other names for the resource. Can be helpful when identifying it on the system.

  1. Now we can place a 6 next to the drive to identify it. This will turn the light on the drive amber.
  2. Select option 7 to turn the light off, just to make sure you have the right drive. (You can repeat this process as necessary to make sure you have the right drive)

NOTE: On this screen it lists the part location which can help to further identify where to look

  1. Select option 8 for Concurrent Maintenance
  2. Select option 1 to remove the drive (wait until the drive lights up or fast blinks before removing it — about 3 seconds). Then this screen will appear:

  1. Go back into the screens (it will kick you out to the action log date screen). Perform concurrent maintenance again and select option 2 to install the drive. (wait until the drive lights up or fast blinks before installing it — about 3 seconds). Then this screen will appear:

Rebuild the ASP (Disk Units)

  1. Go to the main screen for System Service Tools
  2. Select option 3. Work with disk units
  3. Select option 3. Work with disk unit recovery
  4. Select option 6. Rebuild disk unit data
  5. The drive you installed should show up here with the resource name being the same name that you saw earlier. Select option 1 rebuild

NOTE: Notice here how the Resource Name shows as DMP126 but in the action log it showed as DMP125. This is the other name for the resource that I highlighted earlier

Rebuild Select the units to Type choice, 1=Rebuild Disk Option asp Serial Number Set 2 Unit 32 Unit Type 19B@ Model 099 Resource Name DMP126
  1. It will ask you to confirm, hit Enter to confirm

  1. The RAID will begin rebuilding

NOTE: It may showed failed but hit F5 to refresh and it should say Rebuilding. This occurs because it is showing the old drive/serial number at first.

  1. You can refresh again to make sure that it is progressing

  1. When it gets to 5% Rebuilt it is safe to say that the drive is good (this is what I was told by IBM techs)

  1. Go to Display Disk Configuration in SST
  2. Select option 5. Display device parity status
